Types of openers we install .

Not sure which opener is right for you? Our Chicagoland technicians match the drive type to your door weight, garage location, and budget — no upsell, no pressure.

Belt Drive

The quietest option — a reinforced rubber belt replaces the metal chain. Ideal for attached garages with bedrooms above or beside the door.

Chain Drive

Reliable, time-tested workhorse. Strong lifting power for heavy or insulated doors. Slightly louder than belt — great for detached garages.

Screw Drive

Few moving parts means low maintenance. A threaded steel rod lifts the door — works well in temperature-stable garages.

Jackshaft (Side-Mount)

Mounts on the wall beside the door instead of overhead — frees up ceiling space for storage racks, lifts, or vaulted ceilings. Includes deadbolt and battery backup standard.

Smart Wi-Fi Openers

myQ-enabled openers let you open, close, and monitor your door from anywhere. Get alerts, set schedules, and integrate with Alexa, Google Home, and Apple HomeKit.

Commercial Operators

Heavy-duty trolley, jackshaft, and hoist operators for high-cycle commercial doors. Fail-safe controls, photo-eyes, and timed close as required by code.

Modern Convenience

Upgrade to a Smart Wi-Fi Opener

Modern Wi-Fi openers let you open, close, and monitor your garage door from anywhere. Get alerts if it's left open, share access with family, and integrate with the smart-home platforms you already use.

  • Open, close, and check status from your phone
  • Push alerts when the door opens or stays open
  • Works with Alexa, Google Home, and Apple HomeKit (model-dependent)
  • Built-in camera options for a live view of the garage
  • Share access with family or grant temporary codes
  • Activity log so you know who came and went

Most-Installed Platform

LiftMaster myQ

myQ is the most popular smart-opener platform in North America — control any compatible LiftMaster or Chamberlain unit from the myQ app, set schedules, and grant in-garage delivery to Amazon Key.

  • Battery backup standard on most current units
  • Security 2.0 rolling-code encryption — remotes can't be cloned
  • Optional add-on Wi-Fi cameras, keypads, and door sensors

From First Call to Programmed

How opener install works .

1

Assess your setup

Tech inspects your door (weight, size, insulation), the existing rail and motor, and asks about your priorities — quiet, smart features, ceiling space, budget.

2

Recommend the right opener

You see options sized to your door — belt, chain, jackshaft, smart Wi-Fi — with honest pros and cons. We carry every major brand so the recommendation fits the door, not our truck inventory.

3

Install & program

Old opener removed, new unit mounted, rail set, force and travel limits dialed in, and remotes plus keypad programmed. Most installs wrap in 2–4 hours.

4

Walkthrough & safety check

We demo the new opener, pair the myQ app or smart-home integration, run the auto-reverse safety test (mandatory on every install), and walk you through the manual release in case of a power outage.

What Sets Us Apart

Installed right, paired right .

Four things we include on every opener install that you shouldn't take for granted.

Factory-Trained on Every Brand

LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie, Craftsman, Linear, Sommer — our techs are factory-trained across the brand list. Programming, smart-home pairing, and warranty work all done right the first time.

Programming Included

Every install includes pairing remotes, keypads, your car's HomeLink visor button, and the myQ app. We don't leave until you can open and close the door from every device you own.

Safety Reversal Tested

Every opener install ends with a federally required auto-reverse test — a 2x4 under the door verifies the door reverses on contact. Photo-eye sensors are aligned and tested. We document the result.

Battery Backup Standard

California's been required for years and it's coming nationwide. Every smart opener we install ships with battery backup so the door still works when the power's out and you can't manually lift it from outside.

Common Questions

Before you upgrade .

How long does a garage door opener last?
A quality opener typically runs 12–15 years before it's worth replacing. Lighter-duty units last around 10; commercial-grade and smart Wi-Fi units routinely hit 18–20 with periodic gear and capacitor service. The biggest factors are how many cycles per day you run, whether the door is properly balanced (an unbalanced door kills openers fast), and whether anyone has ever lubricated the rail.
Will a new opener work with my existing garage door?
Almost always, yes. Modern openers are sized by horsepower and door weight, not by brand. The two exceptions: very heavy custom wood or full-view aluminum doors sometimes need a specific HP rating, and a few older sectional doors require a rail extension kit. We confirm at the visit before we sell you anything.
Is a smart opener actually worth it?
If you've ever driven halfway to work wondering whether you closed the door, yes. The myQ app lets you check from your phone, close it remotely, get alerts when it opens, and grant temporary access for deliveries or family. The price gap between a basic opener and a smart one is small enough that we install Wi-Fi units on the vast majority of new opener jobs.
Why does my smart opener need battery backup?
Two reasons. First, when the power goes out you usually can't manually lift the door from outside without breaking in — battery backup keeps it operational for dozens of cycles. Second, several states have made battery backup a code requirement on new opener installs, and the rest of the country is heading that direction. Every smart opener we install includes it standard.
Repair my old opener or replace it?
Under 8 years old and a single failed component (logic board, capacitor, gear)? Repair is usually the better value. Over 12 years old, multiple failures, or no longer supported with parts (older Sears Craftsman models, for example)? Replacement is almost always more cost-effective and you get the safety, security, and smart features that 12-year-old units don't have.
Do all openers work with all smart-home systems?
Most modern Wi-Fi openers (LiftMaster myQ, Chamberlain, Genie Aladdin Connect) work with Alexa and Google Home for status checks. Direct voice-open commands and Apple HomeKit are more limited and depend on the specific model. We'll match an opener to the smart-home setup you actually have so you don't end up with features you can't use.
How loud is the new opener going to be? My bedroom is over the garage.
Belt-drive is by far the quietest — most homeowners with a bedroom above the garage notice the difference immediately. Direct-drive jackshaft units (mounted on the wall) are also extremely quiet and free up the ceiling. Chain-drive is the loudest. We'll recommend based on your floor plan, not your wallet.
Does the new opener come with new remotes?
Yes — every opener install includes the manufacturer's standard remote set (typically 2 visor remotes plus a wireless wall keypad). We program them on site, pair your car's HomeLink button if it's compatible, and set up the myQ app on your phone before we leave.

Ready for a new opener?

We match the drive type to your door, install same-day across Chicagoland where possible, and pair every remote and app before we leave.
